Plants rich in secondary metabolites could be a drug source for many untreatable ailments. Being common in the locality, Acalypha indica and Ocimum sanctum were chosen for antioxidant and antimicrobial studies. Bacterial species E.coli, Klebsiella pneumonia, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Enterobacter, Proteus mirabilis, Enterococcus, Bacillus subtilis and Staphylococcus aureus were tested against the methanolic extract of both the plant species obtained by cold maceration method. O.sanctum exhibit a better antioxidant content (258.25 µg/ml GAE and 94 µg/ml QE) with better antibacterial activity against all the species with a maximum of 17mm against E. coli.
