Abstract

Performing lumbar epidural anaesthesia in children for peri-operative analgesia necessitates attentive technique and has a higher success rate if the distance from the skin to the posterior epidural space can be predicted. The major goal of this observational study is to assess the skin to epidural distance (SED) in the lumbar region in Indian children and see if there is a correlation between age, weight, and height. The loss of resistance (LOR) to air is used to determine epidural space. The distance from the tip of the needle to the point where we encountered LOR is calculated. We looked at 52 children who had lumbar epidural anaesthesia for a variety of procedures. Age, weight, height, and SED all have a high association, and weight is the strongest predictor of all the variables. Based on the correlation between variables, we created a prediction equation.
