Abstract

From time to time philosophers, scientists, educationists, and the likes have formally categorized entire known knowledge to outline its boundaries and show the structure of knowledge. It is on this system that various disciplines stand. Insects and Plants is the subject matter of two different disciplines – Zoology and Botany. In spite of the fact insects and plants come from distinct disciplines having well defined boundaries and structure of knowledge, there is an interaction between the two, which is the subject matter of this book, insect-plant interaction. Innumerable books have been written on insects and plants as seen from the respective ecological lens. Relatively less number of books has also been written from the perspective of their interaction. However, most of these books have been penned by authors whose native language is English.

In this book titled, Insect-Plant Interaction, the author does not claim the originality of the content, as many books, journals and confernce proceedings have been consulted, authored by different academicians and practitioners from many countries. What the reader will notice is the essence of the author’s more than fiften year’s experience of active teaching and guiding research. It was felt that the main challenge faced by the students referring academic books is not the content but the language and the style. Authors with English mother tongue tend to use a higher level of language and style, difficult to comprehend by a non-English background student. This book is an attempt by a teacher from a non-English background, exposed to Indian and Ethiopian academic environment, to help students overcome this challenge.

Insect-Plant Interaction is aimed to fulfil the needs of masters level students of crop protection and students pursuing doctoral research in entomology. This work is the outcome of authors seventeen months of committed effort. Broadly, a three level classification of contents has been used, and the numbering and formatting reflect the level of classification in all of its five chapters. This helps the reader, to comprehend the matter comfortably. There is always room for improvement, and as such the author seeks suggestions which may be sent at fakhrimsa@gmail.com
