Abstract

This chapter presents the literature survey of the development of surface modification technology for
tribological applications, a broad topic of interest. This treatise presents various coating techniques
with a special reference to PS, the coating materials, and the characteristics of the materials. The
performance of wear-resistant coatings under various conditions was reviewed critically with the
corresponding failure mechanisms. The chapter also presents a review of the efforts that have been
directed worldwide towards management problems pertaining to the utilisation, storage, and disposal
of red mud, which is the material of interest in this study.
