Abstract

The Internet of Things (IoT) has revolutionized the way we interact with our surroundings, offering a plethora of interconnected devices that streamline daily tasks and enhance overall efficiency. However, with this rapid proliferation of IoT devices comes an inherent vulnerability to cyber threats, jeopardizing user privacy, data integrity, and critical infrastructure. As the IoT landscape continues to expand, it is essential to develop an enhanced security framework to safeguard against potential attacks. This book chapter presents a comprehensive examination of the challenges posed by the IoT's security landscape and proposes effective strategies to counteract them. The chapter delves into the critical components of an enhanced security framework for IoT, including strong authentication and authorization mechanisms, end-to-end encryption, secure boot and firmware updates, and hardware-based security features. Additionally, it explores the significance of employing secure communication protocols, implementing anomaly detection and intrusion prevention systems, and prioritizing user privacy protection. The proposed framework aims to strengthen the overall security posture of IoT devices and the underlying infrastructure while fostering a user-centric approach that prioritizes privacy and data protection. Furthermore, the chapter discusses the importance of continuous security monitoring, incident response planning, and security updates and patch management to address evolving threats effectively. Drawing from extensive research and industry best practices, this book chapter also addresses the need for user education and awareness programs to instill a security-conscious mindset among all stakeholders. Furthermore, it highlights the significance of collaboration between industry players, regulatory authorities, and standardization bodies to ensure a unified approach towards securing the IoT ecosystem.
