INDIGENOUS KNOWLEDGE AND USAGE OF ETHNOMEDICINAL PLANTS BY LIANGMAI NAGAS IN TAMENGLONG DISTRICT OF MANIPUR, INDIA

The Liangmai tribe is an inhabitant in four districts of Manipur and two districts in Nagaland. It has a good verse in traditional knowledge of herbal medicinal plants to treat and prevent different ailments. The study aims to document the traditional knowledge of indigenous medicinal plants, and preserve the traditional knowledge of the Liangmai Naga's. The present paper deals with 15 plants belonging to 12 families used for the treatment of various disease by the Liangmai traditional healers, in Tamenglong District of Manipur, the study has reported that out of 15 plant species 33.33% are used for the treatment of skin disease, followed by fever, and dysentery, diarrhea 26.67% each. Documenting the traditional knowledge of indigenous medicinal plants will play an essential role in preserving and conservation of traditional knowledge.
