Abstract

The study investigated the practice of administrative principles by principals for effective job performance and job satisfaction among public secondary schools’ staff in Kogi east education zone of Kogi state - Nigeria. Two research hypotheses guided the study Descriptive survey research design was adopted for the study. The total of 208 public secondary schools in 9 local government areas in the zone formed the population of the study. A sample of 248 secondary school staff from nine (9) schools representing each local government was purposively selected for the study. Secondary School Workers’ Performance Parameter (SSWPP) was used as instrument for data collection. The data collected was analyzed with the aid of Pearson Product Moment CO-relation Co-efficient Method and the following results emerged: significant relationship exists between staff job performance, staff job satisfaction and the practice of administrative principles by public secondary schools’ principals in Kogi east education zone of Kogi state - Nigeria. This reveals that significant relationship exists between staff effective job performance, job satisfaction and the practice of administrative principles by principals of public secondary schools the area. Some recommendations such as the management of secondary schools in Kogi east education zone should encourage their principals to adhere strictly to the practice of administrative principles among their staff since this principle is seen as one of the machineries to the achievement of educational goals and objectives in the zone; Principals of public secondary schools in the area should lease with the stakeholders and educational managers to attract to the schools the attributes of job satisfaction such as having good relationships with the colleagues, high salary, good working conditions, training and education opportunities, career developments, avoidance of bureaucratic principle in the process and the approval of study leave with pay when applied by a staff of their institutions were made.
