Abstract

Due to reduce electricity consumption for driving refrigeration system and decrease ozone depletion problem resulting from use of Chlorofluorocarbon, CFC, refrigerant, thermal-driven refrigeration system is an effective way to be developed. With resembling in system structure of electricity-driven refrigeration system, single-stage, one ejector, refrigeration system with solar thermal assistance and use of water as refrigerant, CFC free is designed, fabricated and tested. The theoretical simulation program is developed to design size of all components in the system. Lowest chilled water temperature and rate of chilled water produced are two main purposes of this study. Testing results for 1Ton refrigeration system under boiler condition which temperature and absolute pressure of saturated steam used to be primary fluid driving an ejector is about 120°C and 2 bar, respectively and mass flow rate of steam is 0.0032 kg/s. At steady state for 1 hr of chilled water used, the analyzed results show that heat transfer rate at evaporator (QE) and energy efficiency ratio (EER) of refrigeration system at constant 18°C chilled water leaving evaporator are 0.13 kWth and 0.01 kWth/kWel, respectively. Additionally, power of refrigeration system consumed is 13 kWel and rate of chilled water produced is 160.56 litre/hr or 3,853.44 litre/day.
